The Poetics of Awareness: From Anthropocentrism to Ecological Consciousness; An Ecolinguistics Analysis of Muneer Niazi's Poetry

Abstract

The research paper explores the selected poems of Munir Niazi from an ecolinguistics point of view. The research mainly hypothesises that the poet vouches for the use of figuratively rich language that provokes the idea of the interdependence of nature and humans. Moreover, the research argues that via the portrayal of eco-centric themes, the poet develops eco-consciousness in the mind of the reader; hence, deconstructing the anthropocentric perspectives regarding the treatment of nature. Moreover, the study employs the “Story of Metaphors” as a linguistic theory to frame the arguments within the theoretical premises for easy comprehension. Further, the researchers demonstrate that the innovative poetic process of Niazi transcends the receptiveness of human/natural relations and the establishment of a sense of ecological kinship with the immediate experience. This figurative transformation shows the significance of poetry in creating the required inner consciousness to maintain a sustainable, non-exploitative relationship with the natural world.
